- Course objectives
- The lecturer comes out from several years of ethnological field research on the territory of the Balkans - Bulgaria, Republic of Macedonia, Serbia which was realized in the rural and urban areas. The cycle of lectures is concerncern with traditional folk culture, in these countries, some of other Balkan countries are included (Albania, Greece, Bosnia and Hercegovina), especially spiritual and social culture. The cycle of lectures will give students an insight into the most widespread religion on the Balkans - Orthodox Christianity and Islam, in the context of everyday culture of majorities and minorities.
- Learning outcomes
- At the end of this course, the student will be able to: orientate himself in traditional and contemporary culture in selected countries on the Balkans, understand some specifics of the development of traditional folk culture, define the phenomena of traditional folk culture typical for countries in the Balkans (slava, kurban etc.), characterize Orthodox Christianity and Islam as the two most widespread religions in the Balkans.
