Course objectives
The course will focus on history and development of so called new waves in East European cinemas in the sixties. Lectures will concentrate on the phenomenon of Czechoslovak new wave and modern trends in Soviet, Polish or Hungarian films from this period. We will also focus on the work of key auteur figures from this region (Andrzej Wajda, Andrej Tarkovskij, Dušan Makavejev or Lucian Pintilie).
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course students will:
be able to understand modern poetics of new wave films and trends in different East European countries;
know key new wave films, directors and other film artists from East European region;
be able to understand historical context of new waves or trends in East Eropean cinemas.
