Course objectives
This practical course will introduce students to principles and procedures of oral history applied in qualitative researches in arts and humanities.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course, students:
- will have a better understanding of individual phases of oral historical research
- will be introduced to legal and ethical frameworks of the method
- will learn how to process the interviews and collected data
Syllabus
  • The course contains three blocks. The first one will introduce a brief historical overview of the method in question, as well as its theoretical background (including the topic of memory, both individual and collective). This will be followed by listing the practical aspects of oral history, starting from defining an adequate topic, selection of respondents and finally field research, including overview of technical possibilities and issues. In the last part we are going to focus on processing of the interviews and on the ethical aspects of oral history.

Assessment methods
Students will obtain credits for their attendance for the whole duration of the workshop, followed by submitting one interview treated in processed in accordance with theory, practice and ethics of oral history.
