Course objectives
The aim of the course is to acquaint students with the main areas of activity of historians in Czech, Moravian and Silesian museums. Students' imaginations will be confronted with the ideal and reality of the professional activity of a museum historian. Potential applicants for this profession will be better acquainted with its various aspects and able to adapt more quickly in the environment of a collection-creating institution.
Learning outcomes
After graduation, the student will be able to: - understand in more detail the scope and content of the museum historian's work - orient yourself in the way of museum and historical documentation - orient yourself in collection-making activities - understand the pitfalls of caring for collections - understand in more detail the methods of presentation in museums
Syllabus
  • Collection-building activities. Care of collections for their permanent preservation. Presentation of collection objects. Creation of museum exhibitions and exhibitions. Working with the public (special programmes for primary and secondary school pupils, secondary schools, discussions with the elderly...). Professional scientific activities (publishing and lecturing). Excursions to specific museums. Presentation of the scope and volume of work of the historian.
