Course objectives
The aim of the course is completing the Ph.D. thesis and its submitting for the purpose of its defence. Ph.D. students are expected to submit their thesis at the end of the eighth term, thus completing their Ph.D. project, on the basis of which they entered their study programme. The aim of Ph.D. dissertations is to work on a specific, independently chosen linguistic topic in an innovative way. Ph.D. students in their theses reflect present-day knowledge of the selected issue, on the basis of which they clearly formulate the topic of their work, suggesting adequate research methods, gathering data, evaluating and critically reflecting the data, concluding the obtained results, putting them into a wider context of the particular discipline and clearly formulating, how the thesis enlarges, deepens, specifies or corrects the present-day knowledge. Ph.D. thesis is a key subject of the Ph.D. study programme, since Ph.D. students are preparing it for the whole period of their studies. Working on their Ph.D. thesis, students acquire knowledge, skills and competences of an independent research worker.
