Course objectives
The course focuses on different approaches to the analysis of a musical theatre production, in this case the staging of an opera.

The course is held in Czech.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course student will be able to:
- explain how different theories from theatre studies or related disciplines can be used to analyse opera;
- apply chosen cognitive theories during analysing adaptation and production of opera performance;
- characterize the different approaches comparatively.
Syllabus
  • Thematic scope: - semiotics of opera - opera from the perspective of theory of adaptation - performativity of opera - opera as "art of dying" - opera as a (hyper)medium - cognitive analysis of opera The course includes attendance at at least two theatre performances.
