Course objectives
The course provides information about basic approaches and methods of scientific disciplines employed in museum institutions and elucidates their significance and role within the collection-building and presentation activity.
Learning outcomes
After completion of the course, the student will be able to: understand the specific position and activity of individual scientific disciplines in the sphere of museums; interpret the creation, classification and presentation of museum collections in relation to the needs of individual scientific disciplines, whose collections are stored in museum institutions; apply the knowledge of these disciplines in museum practice.
Syllabus
  • Explanation of the term ‘special museology’. Relationship of museology to other disciplines employed in museums, special museologies as a part of the museology system. Concepts and approaches to the problem of general and special museologies in the works by Czech and foreign museologists. Special museologies in the sphere of social science – prehistoric, ethnographic, historical, art historical, literary-scientific and other museologies. Special museologies in the sphere of natural science. Special museologies in the sphere of technical science. Current state and level of special museologies and their institutional components. Implementation of new disciplines of science in museum work.
