Course objectives
Language learning is a priority theme of the European Union, intent on promoting mobility and mutual understanding between cultures. In this perspective, one of the objectives of the EU is that every European citizen has a command of two other languages in addition to his mother tongue. In the European linguistic mosaic, the Slavic languages and the Romance languages belong to the most widely represented linguistic groups. Thanks to the Erasmus program, thousands of Slavic-speaking students decide to carry out part of their studies in Romance-speaking countries, such as Italy or Portugal. The LMOOC4Slav project offers these students a freely accessible online learning path taking into account their specific needs for undergraduate study. In fact, it provides for the creation of two MOOCs, one of Italian and one of Portuguese, which will allow the development of academic linguistic skills and abilities, and the creation of open educational resources. The resources, downloadable from the project portal, include video recordings with transcripts, written texts on academic topics relating to different disciplinary fields and "ready to use" learning units.
Learning outcomes
MOOC ACademic Portuguese is organised into 6 modules that provide the student access to authentic academic situations as well as learning tools to enhance his/her ability to learn how to learn. The MOOC is designed for self-paced and independent study and may be attended while studying abroad or before departure, aiming at providing students with the needed tools to succeed. The course offers specific tools to facilitate learning of academic language and to teach learners strategies that help them to develop autonomy, in particular cognitive and metacognitive strategies and allows reflection on linguistic elements, as well as on kinaesthetic and socio-cultural characteristics of the academic environment.
