- Course objectives
- The course Reading Script of the Modern period follows on from the course Latin Script in the Modern Period and prepares students for reading and interpreting texts written in Latin script in the period from the 16th to the 20th century. (neo-Gothic cursive and humanistic script). Students are therefore recommended to enrol on the course Latin Script in the Modern Period at the same time. Students will improve their ability to read the above-mentioned types of book and charter script using extracts that follow on from the sources studied in the seminar part of the course Latin Script in the Modern Period.
- Learning outcomes
- After completing the course, the student will be able to:
- apply their knowledge of the development of writing from the 16th the 20th century to specific sources;
- transcribe and prepare selected original Latin, German and Czech texts from the period 1500–2000 for a critical edition;
- read and analyse original Latin, German and Czech texts (inscriptions, books and charters) from the period 1500-2000. - Syllabus

- The seminar is based on the active participation of students and follows on from the course Latin Script in the Modern Period, with continued reading of source material.
- Assessment methods
- To obtain credit for the course, students are required submit a transcription of a Latin text of approximately one folio.
