Course objectives
Student will be trained in application of computers for data acquisition, processing and presentation. The aim is to promote computer literacy; knowledge and skill gained are necessary prerequisite for further studies, completion of bachelor thesis and for future profession.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course student will be able to use program MS Excel; program QC Expert; program Matlab; program Maxima; program LabVIEW; programming language Python.
Syllabus
  • 1. Introduction. Application of MS Excel program for data evaluation. 2. ORIGIN - software for data visualization, graphs generation and data analysis 3. Statistical software (e.g. STATISTICA, Statgraphics, ADSTAT) 4. QC Expert - software for statistical quality control and for statistical data analysis 5. Application of mathematical software in chemistry (e.g. Matlab, Maple, Maxima) 6. Introduction to programming (text and graphical programming languages) 7. Programming language Python 8. Programming language R 9. Interface instrument - computer, data input and output 10. PC as a virtual instrument - LabView 11. Software tools for data presentation (e.g. MS Word, MS PowerPoint, ADOBE Acrobat) 12. Internet tools (www and ftp servers, web page generation) 13. Computer security (hardware and software) 14. Other applications of computers in analytical laboratory (e.g. MathType, Isis Draw)
