Course objectives (in Czech)
Schedule of the lecture (presentation): 1. Distribution of the regions of karst and caves occurrence on the background of the geodiversity of the territory of Poland. 2. Description of the regions: a) Tatra Mts – high-mountainous Pliocene-Pleistocene karst, b) Pieniny Mts – non karst caves in karstified rocks, generated by morphological conditions, c) Beskidy Mts – caves in non-carbonate flysch and their scientific importance, d) Sudety Mts – diversity of karst and non karst caves, paleokarst sites, e) Kraków-Wieluń Upland – area of continuous karst development since the Palaeogene, f) Nida Basin (Ponidzie) – relatively young and fast-developing karst in the gypsum rocks, g) Swietokrzyskie (Holy Cross) Mts – multiphase karst (Devonian, Permian, Triassic and Cenozoic) and its importance for studies of the region evolution, karst and non-karst caves, h) Polish Lowlands – unique caves in the Pleistocene sandstones and not-lithified rocks. 3. Paleokarst of Poland and its role in the paleoenvironmental reconstructions of the terrestial periods in the geological history – recapitulation. 4. Problems of the caves and karst sites protection in Poland – brief review.
