Course objectives
During the course consisting of lectures given by experts of the Institute of Analytical Chemistry of Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic students will learn advanced analytical techniques. The course also involves a visit of the Institute of Analytical Chemistry of ASCR.
Syllabus
  • Syllabus of the course Trends in analytical chemistry 12 x 2 hours
  • Lectures (Thursday, 8:00–9:50, AK1, Komenského nám.).
  • Study materials will be published on IS MU in the course of semester.
  • (1) 24.9.: Ing. Karel Klepárník, CSc. Modern instrumentation for genetical research, medicine diagnostics and molecular identification of organisms (principles of capillary electrophoresis and mass spectrometry for DNA analysis, separation media, laser-induced fluorescence, DNA mutation a polydispersity, sample preparation for DNA analysis (cloning, restriction cleavage, PCR amplification, Sanger reaction), DNA sequencing, analysis of restriction fragment polymorphism, analysis of ssDNA conformational polymorphism, denaturation analysis, capillary electrophoresis and mass spectrometry for medical diagnostics and molecular identification of organisms.
  • (2) 1.10.: Assoc. Prof. RNDr. Michal Roth, CSc. Compressed fluids in analytical separation methods. Supercritical fluids and compressed liquids – details and differences, application in chromatography and sample preparation, supercritical fluid chromatography, supecritical fluid extraction. Alternative solvents – motivation, properties, applications.
  • (3) 8.10.: Mgr. Pavel Kubáň, Ph.D. Advanced techniques of capillary electrophoresis – principles, trends, detection methods, applications in analysis of real samples.
  • (4) 15.10., 14:00: Ing. Miloslav Vobecký, CSc. Radionuclide indicators in chemical research. Applications of radionuclide indicators with high specific activity in research and development of trace elemental analysis.
  • (5) 22.10.: Assoc. Prof. RNDr. Bohumil Dočekal, CSc. New approaches in atomic spectroscopy. Laboratory for trace analysis - “clean environment“.
  • (6) 29.10.: RNDr. Vladislav Kahle, CSc. Miniaturization and automation of separation methods. A survey of analytical separation methods (GC, HPLC, CE, CEC) and evaluation of their performance (analysis time, efficiency, extracolumn contributions to peak broadening), miniaturization as a toll for enhancement of separation method performance, theoretical basics and practical potential, importance of automation for practical applications of analytical separation methods.
  • (7) 5.11.: Assoc. Prof. RNDr. Karel Šlais, DrSc., Ing. Marie Horká, CSc. Preparative and analytical isoelectric focusing. Principle and varieties of experimental arrangement (capillary, gel), detection, staining, on-line detection, standards and pI-markers, application in protein analysis, 2D separation, miniaturization, continual methods, coupling with mass spectrometry. Applications of isoelectric focusing and capillary electrophoresis for separation of microorganisms.
  • (8) 12.11.: Ing. František Foret, CSc. Basics of microfabrication for analytical instrumentation. Coupling of microseparation techniques with  mass spectrometry.
  • (9) 19.11.: Ing. Janette Bobál'ová, CSc. Methods for technology process control (analytical method development, upgrade of analytical chemistry focused on industrial processes).
  • (10) 26.11.: Ing. Karel Klepárník, CSc., Ing. František Foret, CSc., Mgr. Ivona Svobodová, Ph.D. Nanotechnology in bioanalysis. Modern analytical instrumentation and intellectual property protection.
