- Course objectives
- The subject is an obligatory complement of the lecture F1240 Physics for chemists 1. The main aim of this theoretical exercise is to provide the practical experience in solving physical problems in topics which are closely connected with the main lecture. At the end of the course students should be able to solve the basic physical problems in the topics covered by subject F1240.
- Syllabus
- 1. Units and quantities.
- 2. Processing of experimental data.
- 3. Mathematics in physics, vectors, differential and integal calculus in physics.
- 4. Classical mechanics, Newton’s law, conservation laws.
- 5. Mechanics of liquids, surface tension.
- 6. Harmonic oscillator, damped and forced oscillations, resonance, oscillation with two and more degrees of freedom
- 7. Waves, harmonic wave, waves in one dimension and waves in 3D space, superposition, dispersion.
- 8. Electrostatics, electric field, potential and voltage, electric dipole, polarization.
- 9. Electric current, Ohm's law.
- 10. Magnetic field, magnetic dipole, magnetic properties of matter, electromagnetic field.
- 11. Geometrical optics.
