Course objectives
At the end of this practical course students should be able to:
utilize modern methods of measurements of physiological processes in plants growing in their habitats;
monitor abiotic factors in close vicinity of the studied plants;
design suitable conceptual approach to solve specific ecological problems using physiological measurements;
select the most appropriate methods for field data collection and their evaluation.
Syllabus
  • Principles, advantages and disadvantages of different sensors used in monitoring of abiotic variables (radiation, temperature, wind velocity, air humidity, soil water potential, carbon dioxide and oxygen concentration). Field data acquisition using data loggers. Principles of methods and available compact apparatus most frequently used for measurement of physiological processes in the field conditions (gasometry, fluorometry, reflectometry), their practical application . Design of ecophysiological studies using complementary measurements in laboratory conditions. Synthesis of analytical data with help of mathematical modelling.
