Prerequisites
The basic knowledge of mechanics, plasma physics, probability theory, statistics and programing is assumed.
Course Enrolment Limitations
The course is offered to students of any study field.
Course objectives
At the end of this course, students obtain the basic knowledge of Monte Carlo method and its use for the simulations in plasma physics, radiology and other fields.
Learning outcomes
The student will be able:
- to use the Monte Carlo method for solution of mathematical and physical problems.
Syllabus
  • Introduction to Monte Carlo method. Generators of uniform random numbers. Transformation of random numbers. Generation of special types of random numbers. Computation of integrals by Monte Carlo method. Simulation of interaction of particles and radiation with matter. Simulation of transport phenomena in solids, gases and plasmas. "Particle in Cell" method. Applications of Monte Carlo method in plasma physics and radiology.
