Course objectives
Main objectives can be summarized as follows: to intermediate the first contact with the range of issues of human geography; to expose particular sub-disciplines through the problem-oriented approach; to motivate specialization of students later during their Bachelor's or Master's studies.
Learning outcomes
Learning outcomes can be summarized as follows: competence to analyze basic human geographic phenomena and processes; competence to apply basic methods of human geographic research; competence to interpret basic results of human geographic research.

  • 1. The role of place and space in the social science.
  • 2. The nature of geographic phenomena. Geography within the system of sciences.
  • 3. Methods and techniques in geography.
  • 4. Concept of demographic transition. Contemporary demographic development.
  • 5. Agriculture in the world, commodities and foodstuff production.
  • 6. Energetic resources.
  • 7. Spatial changes of production. Fordism and flexible accumulation. Economic globalization.
  • 8. Transport and spatial interactions. Transportation modes. Transportation impacts.
  • 9. Spatial mobility and its forms.
  • 10. Urbanisation and settlement systems.
  • 11. Political geography and geopolitics.
  • 12. Cities and urban structure, city models
