Course objectives
The course Geology for Life presents a view of the Earth through the eyes of a geologist. The aim is to provide non-geology students with a basic understanding of the geological phenomena we encounter every day. The course is also suitable for science teaching students as a supplement to their own biology, chemistry, and geography classes.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course, students will be able to...
- explain the relationship between the composition of the Earth and the evolution of the universe.
- characterize the landscape based on geological factors.
- explain the processes leading to the formation of different types of rocks.
- prepare a teaching unit on a given geological topic.

Upon completion of the course, students will be able to...
- identify and distinguish basic rock-forming minerals and rocks.
- explain and demonstrate the main distinguishing features for identification using a specimen.
- describe the interconnection of living and non-living nature in the form of a global geosystem.
- discuss the relationships between the rock cycle and ecological balances.
- compose appropriate questions to practice geological skills.
