- Topics of lectures in ECOPHYSIOLOGY OF HIGHER PLANTS PHOTOSYNTHESIS (1) Chloroplast structure, development and function of chloroplasts, thylakoids, components of thylakoid membrane, appressed and non-appressed membrane regions, photosynthetic pigments (2) Structure and function of photosystem II, photosystem I, cytochrome complex b/f6, ATPasa (3) Absorption of radiation energy, linear and cyclic electron transport, photochemical processes of photosynthesis (4) Chlorophyll fluorescence, basic terms and definitions, chlorophyll fluorescence as a mathod of photosynthesis study (5) Chlorophyll fluorescence induction curves, active and non-active photosystems II, redox state of quinone (Qa) (6) Quenching mechanisms of chlorophyll fluorescence, xanthophyll cycle, thermal energy dissipation (7) Photoinhibition of photosynthesis, photoinhibition of donor and acceptor side of PS II, recovery from photoinhibition (8) Biochemical part of photosynthesis, photosynthetic enzymes, biochemical products of photosynthesis, C3, C4, and CAM type of photosynthesis (9) Gasometrical methods of photosynthesis measurements, open and closed systems, types of exposition chambers, oxygen electrode, field measurements (10) Light-, CO2- , and temperature-curves of photosynthesis, parameters derived from the curves, (11) Variability of leaf-level photosynthesis, stomatal patchinness, sun and shade leaf photosynthesis, photosynthesis under intermittent light, midday depression of photosynthesis, (12) Acclimatory and adaptative proceses of photosynthesis, regulatory mechanisms (13) Trends in photosynthesis research, photosynthetic databases, recent literature for advanced students
