Course objectives
Scalar and vector fields: Scalar and vector physical quantities as functions of position, scalar and vector fields. Partial derivatives, total differential. Directional derivative, gradient of a scalar field. Path integral of the second type. Applications - work of the force field, conservation of energy, heat capacities. Integral curves of a vector field. Surface integral of the first and second type, integral theorems. Applications - flux of the vector field through a surface, integral and differentia form of physical laws. Tensors and tensor fields: Linear relations of vector quantities, second rank physical tensors. Tensors as linear mappings of vector spaces, representation in bases, basic operations. Eigenvalue problem. Applications - motion of rigid bodies, elements of mechanics of continuous media.
