Course objectives
Students of biology adopt the basic knowledge of statistic methods in course of Bi5040 Biostatistics. The main aim of this course is to demonstrate them practical usage of these methods. PC-based software Statistica 5.0 is used for this purpose. Students passing through the course, both the lectures and practice, should be able to evaluate experimental biological data. The course is suitable namely for the students working and preparing their Bc., MSc. or Ph.D. theses on experimental ground.
Syllabus
  • Data collecting. Organization of data within spreadsheets. PC-based statistical packages, Statistica software. Import of data from spreadsheet. Variable types, statistical distribution, kvantils, null hypothesis, 1st and 2nd type of error. Choosing appropriate statistical method. Contingancy tables, X2 test. Two sample analysis - F-test, t-test. One-way analysis of variance, homogeneity of variances, independence of residuals, data transformations, contrasts. Multiple analysis of variance, factorial and nested design, interaction, fixed and random effect models, mixed model. Between-groups and repeated measure factors. Covariance analysis. Correlation analysis, Pearson's and partial correlation coefficient. Regression analysis, linear and non-linear regression, multiple regression. Assessment methods (in Czech)

Further comments (probably available only in Czech)
The course can also be completed outside the examination period.
The course is taught annually.
The course is taught: every week.
General note: Předpokladem k zapsání jsou alespoň základní znalosti práce s PC a s tabulkovým procesorem (např. MC Excel).
Information on course enrolment limitations: Omezení počtu zapsatelných studentů je dáno omezenou kapacitou počítačové učebny.
