Course objectives
Field practise with using of ecological mapping methods; during the field course studets will recognize a medium segment of Landscape.
Students are to understand and interpret space interactions and connections of Nature and Man in territory under study, impact of the Man on the Landscape;
Studens will apply their theoretical knowledge in the real Landscape;
The course supports both individual and team work of students.
Syllabus
  • Field course usually takes place somewhere in Moravia outside of Brno city.
  • 1. Excursion to surroundings of hostel, orientation in the territory, presentation of physical geography and human geography features of the territory. This part is the task of students. During the excursion ecological, landscape ecological and biogeographical themes are presentated by the lecturers too.
  • 2. Field work of the students - mapping of landuse (usually in tandem of students), propsals for Landscape improvement, selection of Skeleton of landscape stability.
  • 3. Assesment of fundamental features of the landscape and its elements (according to Forman, Godron 1986, 1993).
  • 4. Mapping of distribution of any striking flower and searching for reasons of its presence/absence.
  • 5. Processing of data.
  • Details of the course depend on the locality of the course and on the weather.

Teaching methods
Before the field course students are to prepare and analyse information on geology, geomorfology, climatology, pedology, biology etc. of the Landscape, where the field course will be held. During the field course students present their prepared information.
Students under supervision of the lecturer map a landscape, measure some climatoligical features. It is a group work usually.
After the end of the field course students are to elaborate final maps and reports.
Assessment methods
To obtain the credit it is necessary: 1. To make oral presentation on information about the territory. 2. To submit results of mapping in the Landscape and a landscape profile in good quality. 3. To present notes from field presentations and discussions.
