- Course objectives
- Basic knowledge of plant ecosystems and their changes in results of natural environment and human impact during Holocene
- Learning outcomes
- Written exam Basic knowledge of plant ecosystems and their changes in results of natural environment and human impact during Holocene
- Syllabus
- 1. Holocene chronostratigraphy, climatic oscillations, glacial boreholes, atmosphere composition, deglaciation, climate development at the Pleistocene / Holocene boundary and in Holocene, anthropogenic impacts;
- 2. Dating methods: 14C, optically stimulated luminescence, thermoluminescence, dendrochronology, practical applications, laboratories;
- 3. Plant ecosystems - ecological valency, plant strategy, zonal x azonal vegetation, climax communities, refugia - primary x secondary ecological succession, vegetation in the Last Glacial, influence of temperature and humidity increase, Holocene climatic optimum. Pleistocene end and Holocene fauna: extinction of large mammals, changes in the composition of small mammalian communities, and malacofauna; examples;
- 4. Landscape relief, physical and chemical weathering, slope, fluvial, karst, cryogenic, eolian and anthropogenic processes, development of geomorphological shapes in various parts of the landscape, impact of reclamation on erosion conditions in the landscape;
- 5. Soil development in Holocene, soil processes, soil classification, soil profile documentation, sampling, pedochemical analysis, interpretation, anthropogenic soil influence;
- 6. Archeology - period and their duration (paleolith, neolithic, etc.), characteristics of individual periods, typical features, significant finds, researchers, localities;
- 7. Domestication, definition of the concept, origins of domestication, characteristics of individual domestic species (mainly tour, sheep / goat, pig, horse, dog;
- 8. Influence of human activity on vegetation, changes before the beginning of agriculture, Neolithic, basic cultivated crops and development of changes in landscape management;
- 9. Palynology - pollen grains and spores + so-called non-pollen objects, advantages and disadvantages of the method, pollen diagrams - detection of changes in plant cover, climatic changes, intensity of human activity, localities. Isotope studies and their use, examples (carbon and nitrogen).
