Course objectives
At the end of this course students are able to:
explain the most recent findings in structure and function of photosynthetic apparatus;
understand principles of fluorimetric methods of photosynthesis measurement;
compare biophysical and biochemical methods;
apply appropriate statistical models and present the data using suitable graphs.

  • LECTURES (theoretical background to Practical Training) 1)Modulated fluorometers and chlorophyll fluorescence parameters 2) Fast induction kinetics of chlorophyll fluorescence (O,I,D,P, Qa reducing/nonreducing PS II) 3) Slow (Kautsky) kinetics of Chl fluorescence with quenching parameters 4) Effect of stress factors on Chl fluorescence parameters 5) Photosynthesis in leaves of shade tolerants and heliophytic plants 6) Heterogeneity of photosynthesis at leaf level 7) Photosynthesis in aquatic ecosystems 8) Light-response curve of photosynthesis 9) CO2-response curve of photosynthesis 10 ) Temperature-response curve of photosynthesis 11) Daily courses of photosynthesis in sun and shade leaves 12) Effect of toxic compounds on photosynthesis 13) New directions in photosynthesis research (students colloquium)
