Course objectives
The subject is intended for students of bachelor's studies. The aim of the course is to obtain information about the design of wells intended for the groundwater abstraction. Thus, the students will be introduced to the drilling principles, including the fundamental types of technological equipment. Consequently, the process of abstraction wells equipping will be described. Some key phases in abstraction wells equipping will be explained in details like the optimal choice of the well and its equipment diameter, the type of well casing and the correct gravel pack grain size. The types of well equipment suitable for wellbores pumping mineral and thermal water will be explained. Additionally, the methods of well groundwater yield assessment and the procedure of well equipment condition evaluating (degree of well screen clogging) will be introduced. It will be followed by the description of the optimal abstraction well operation. Finaly, the methods focused on the assessing of groundwater abstraction impact on water resources in the vicinity will be explained. The student will be also introduced to the methods of wellbore disposal.
Learning outcomes
After finishing the course student will be able to: - propose suitable type of the water supply object - select the appropriate well pack and screen - select the appropriate well diameter and depth - determine the well yield - to set optimal mode of groundwater abstraction from well - complete the supply well project proposal - make the graphic attachment for the supply well project proposal.
