Evaluation of the course

The final evaluation will be computed as a weighted average of evaluations from a test (40%) and from a presentation of the research proposal (60%). The research proposal should be submitted via homework vault by January 6th, 23.59. The test as well as presentations will take place on Thursday, January 11th, from 10 to 14.30. Please book the whole time.

Four presentations will take place from 10 to 12 and three presentations from 13 to 14.30. There will be 15 minutes for presentation and 15 minutes for discussion for each student. The order of presentations will be decided by Ondřej Krčál, who will send you the timeline after you hand in your research proposals, on Monday, January 8th at the latest.  The written test will take place from 12.30 to 12.55 in VT106.

See below for details about the test and the research proposal.

Test

The test consists of 20 multiple-choice questions. It will be completed on computers using the ROPOT application in the IS.

Research proposal

The research proposal should outline your intended research. The text should be understandable to a wide professional public, but also specific enough to understand what is your intended contribution and why society should care about your research. The proposal should focus mostly on the methodology of your research. After reading the proposal, it should be clear, how you want to proceed and why is your methodological approach appropriate. The proposal is expected (not required) to be about 1500-2000 words (approx. 5 pages long). You might consider to have the following points:

  • Title
  • Motivation – explain why we should care
  • Contribution – how it is related to other studies, what is novel about your study
  • Research design – including data sources, methodology, and methods
