The study of the Regional Development and Management program focuses on the key processes of social evolution, the driving force of which is economic growth, optimal course is sustainable development and the main purpose is improving the quality of life. Accordingly, it opens the way to understanding the links between territorial conditions and development results. Students will acquire the knowledge and skills needed to process analyses reflecting the civic and business preferences of the main development actors using modern marketing procedures. From a practical point of view, it is an integral part of the administration and management of municipalities and regions as well as corporate management including the creation of strategic visions, concepts and development plans. And just in the complex understanding of societal development in the spatial context the uniqueness of this creative program lies.

After successfully completing his/her studies the graduate is able to:

  • explain spatial patterns and methodologic approaches created in regional economics and related disciplines
  • apply acquired knowledge in administration and management at local, regional and/or national levels
  • apply the acquired knowledge in management and marketing of companies, especially in areas with significant links to the administrative and spatial dimension of business
  • processing applications for projects support from evaluate real estate and process relevant expertise
  • communicate with with domestic and foreign experts from border disciplines (e. g. business economics and spatial planning).

A balanced mix of acquired knowledge and skills enables graduates of the program to find employment in both private and public institutions according to own priorities. Possible job positions include a specialist in state or local administration and self-government, project manager and/or economic consultant, marketing specialist, and real estate broker. Graduation further makes it easier to start your own business.

The standard duration of studies is six semesters. For admittance to the final state examination, students must earn a total of 180 ECTS credits for type A/required, type B/selective, and type C/elective courses. Type A/required courses constitute the basis of the discipline and their share is the largest part of credits (including credits for courses focused on writing a Bachelor’s thesis). Students choose type B/selective courses according to their interests and intended professional specialization. The remaining credits can be earned from type C/elective courses offered in the curriculum of the given study programme or from other courses offered by any other study programme. The total minimum number of credits is defined by the study and examination regulations of Masaryk University, the guidance note about the general study requirements, and the current study catalogue. Students can access the study catalogues through the faculty website.

The final state examination in the Regional Development and Administration study programme is oral and has three parts:

- Thesis defence (a projector is available)

- Examination in Economics (student draws one question): questions and methodological guidelines for the exam can be found on the department website

- Examination in Regional Development and Administration

After completing the Bachelor’s degree study programme, it is possible to continue further studies in the Master’s degree study programme in Economic Policy and Administration or Regional Development and Administration.
