Course objectives
Students will become familiar with the way linguistics works with the lexical unit, as well as with the lexicographic approach towards it. They will see different types of up to date dictionaries for spoken and sign languages and they will get an overview of Czech Sign Language dictionaries which will be useful to them both during their study and in their future job as interpreters.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course, the student understands and is able to explain the lexical unit, the differences between a word, a sign, a lexeme, and a lemma, the organization of (sign) languages' lexicon and the processes within it (lexicalization, grammaticalization). The student can also distinguish different types of dictionaries, understand the structure of a dictionary entry, and reflect on specific problems in the lexicography of sign languages.
