Cíle předmětu
At the end of the course students should be able to>
understand and explain the complexity of the enlargement process – the political, legal and economic factors, to work with information on the EU’s conditionality applied vis-à-vis candidate countries
create own opinion for the status and progress of Western Balkan Countries and Republic of Macedonia, to allow students to appreciate the challenges of future enlargements (the countries of Western Balkans)
make deductions based on acquired knowledge, to interpret critically on the accession process and conditionality employed in the relations with pre-candidate and candidate countries from Western Balkan region.

  • Class 1: Personal Introduction; Historical review (background) of the Western Balkan Countries; Dissolution of the SFRY and democratization process; Institutional and legal structure of new emerged states
  • Class 2: Western Balkans: enhancing the European perspective; Consolidating stability and achieving prosperity in the Western Balkans; Integration into the European Union; The stabilisation and association process;
  • Class 3: Euro integration v.v. Enlargement in respect of achievements, Enlargement strategy; Agreements with the countries of the Western Balkans on the facilitation of the issuance of visas
  • Class 4: Republic of Macedonia towards enlargement process; “Name dispute” with Greece, obstacle for accession to EU, Progress Report for EU Integration
  • Class 5: The impact of Western Balkan Countries’ integration process to the current situation of the Republic of Macedonia; Perspective and Conclusions
  • Class 6: Students present essay, defenses and oral argumentations
