Prerequisites
The level of Spanish mastered by students is expected to correspond to B1 according to CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference).
Course Enrolment Limitations
The course is offered to students of any study field.
Course objectives
The course aims to offer students a heterogeneous and diverse syllabus on topics related to multicultural and plurinational societies in Latin America. Another goal consists in the language competencies development.
Learning outcomes
Students will have a holistic view of complex composition of the contemporary society in Latin America, and will be able to identify and define the current issues concerning some representative indigenous peoples from the South American macroregion.
Syllabus
  • This semester we will share classes with several Latin American universities (especially with the University of Azuay) and we will focus on the reality of indigenous ethnic groups and their cultural diversity in South America. Topics 1) The Ecuadorian Amazon: the diversity of indigenous languages 2) Indigenous orality: the oral traditions of the Amerindian peoples 3) Stories and myths of the Amazonian peoples 4) The worldview of the Shuar 5) The Andean zone: the most representative indigenous groups 6) The Saraguro: traditions and rituals, ancestral knowledge
