Course objectives
This course builds on the course BPH_PIS1 Business Information Systems, consolidating the acquired knowledge within the broader context of the discipline (business informatics) and extending it beyond specific components (such as ERP systems) to encompass the enterprise information system as a whole. The objective is to provide students with a more detailed overview of the management of business informatics and of the information technologies employed in enterprises. The course also helps students navigate the domain of business informatics more effectively (e.g. through practical projects in real-world organisations) and to select specialised courses aligned with their professional orientation in subsequent studies. A key component of the course is reflection and emphasis on soft skills. Both the project and the reflective activities will support students in their future studies, particularly in selecting and developing their final bachelor project.
Learning outcomes
By the end of the course, students will be able to:
- define key concepts in the field of business informatics;
- describe the components of an enterprise information system and their characteristic features;
- explain the function and significance of individual components of an enterprise information system;
- describe and analyse the current state of an information system within an enterprise;
- develop a proposal for the innovation of a specific information system;
- orient in the latest technological solutions relevant to business informatics.

Teaching methods
This course applies the flipped classroom model. The first session of each topic is a seminar for which students are expected to prepare thoroughly, including submitting a preparatory assignment. The seminars make extensive use of discussions and various individual and group activities. The second session on each topic involves discussing the learned concepts with experts. An essential element of the course is self-reflection, which is linked to formative assessment. The course concludes with a combination of an essay, a team project, and a portfolio presentation.
Assessment methods
The final assessment of the course consists of the following components:
- active participation in seminars and preparation for seminars (students must obtain a minimum number of points from these activities, as specified in the interactive syllabus);
- mid-term test, end-term essay;
- team project and its presentation (including a scholarly theoretical discussion as part of the presentation);
- presentation of the course portfolio.
Náhradní absolvování
This course cannot be completed remotely during a study abroad stay, as a fundamental part of the assessment consists of seminar participation, discussions with experts, and the development of a team project within a real enterprise.
