- Course objectives
- The "Fundamentals of Management in Sport" course is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of management principles as applied in the context of the sports industry. Through a series of 13 two-hour seminars, students will explore key concepts, theories, and practices in sport management, enabling them to develop essential skills for effective leadership and decision-making in sports organizations.
- Learning outcomes
- At the end of this course, students should be able to:
- define management, sport management and its importance in various organizational contexts;
- explain the development of management theories and their implications for modern organizations;
- identify the key roles and functions of managers at different organizational levels;
- differentiate between strategic, tactical and operational planning;
- create effective goals, objectives and action plans;
- evaluate the decision-making process and apply decision-making models to practical scenarios;
- analyze different types of organizational structures, their advantages and disadvantages;
- explain the concept of organizational culture and its impact on employee behavior and performance;
- to design an organizational structure that will be in aligned with the specific goals of a sports organization;
- identify strategies for motivating individuals and teams in a diverse workplace;
- apply effective communication and interpersonal skills to lead and inspire teams;
- explain the process of recruitment, selection and placement of employees and their specifics in sport;
- apply time management techniques to increase personal and professional productivity;
- analyze the components of a strategic plan, including mission, vision, and SWOT analysis;
- develop a basic strategic plan for a sport organization with consideration of internal and external factors. - Syllabus
