- Course objectives
- The aim of the subject is to provide students with an overview of theoretical and practical knowledge and skills in the field of psychology, within the framework of injury prevention and health maintenance, taking into account the specific needs of elite and amateur athletes (including disabled athletes). Students will be introduced to knowledge regarding a healthy lifestyle, sports performance and also in the context of the prevention of civilizational diseases, with a focus on the psychological aspects of the influence of movement on health and quality of life. students will get an overview of the important contexts of sports psychology, the basic methods of psychological research in the field and the possibilities in the field of coping strategies, stress management, etc.

- After completing the course, students:
-can integrate acquired theoretical knowledge from psychology (within their competence)
- they will be oriented in the current trends in the given area
- they will be able to identify warning signals associated with the possibility of pathological fatigue and other risk factors or maladaptive forms of behavior in the context of a healthy lifestyle in clients from the sporting and general population within the framework of individual and group work and respond adequately to them when working with clients within the framework of counseling activities; - Syllabus
- 1. Introduction to psychology – psychology as a scientific discipline, the position of psychology in the system of sciences. Basic and applied psychological disciplines and their interdisciplinary overlaps. Main theoretical directions, diagnostic procedures and research methods in psychology. 2. Key thematic areas of general psychology, personality psychology and developmental psychology in the context of effective communication with the client and increasing his motivation to support his mental and physical health. 3. Psychology of health (bio-psycho-social model of mental and physical health and disease; internal and external causes of health behavior of individuals and groups of people and cultures; key psychological connections of a healthy lifestyle; quality of life). Current trends in research in the given area. 4. Psychological strategies for supporting a healthy lifestyle, psychological issues of health protection and promotion, methods and procedures for assessing their effectiveness and impact on health, vulnerability and resilience in children, 5. Possibilities and limits of preventing health problems, maintaining good health, health promotion, health enhancement, health strengthening and psychological health encouragement. The importance of nutrition and regeneration for mental and physical health. 6. Basic aspects of communication – verbal and non-verbal components of communication, forms of communication, active listening in communication with the client, attributional errors in contact with the client, feedback and aspects that increase its quality 7. The issue of stress and its impact on mental and physical health, communication with a client in stress or anxiety. Manifestations of stress in the client at various levels and their recognition by a specialist – psychological, physiological and behavioral symptoms. Communication with the client about the symptoms of stress from the perspective of the client's psychoeducation 8. Coping styles and coping strategies from different perspectives - positive, negative and neutral coping strategies preferred by the client in various stressful situations. Coping strategies from a long-term perspective assessed as a habit in the field of health 9. Motivation as a psychological construct, theories of motivation and concepts of motivation in the field of psychology. Motivation for performance and its individual aspects - anxiety supporting performance, anxiety inhibiting performance, motive for performance. Motivational structure of the client 10. Overview of selected mental disorders and maladaptive forms of behavior in the context of a healthy lifestyle (emotional disorders, anxiety and depressive states, attention and behavior disorders, will disorders, etc.), eating disorders and body image disorders, self-harming behavior in the context of recognizing their basic symptoms in the client
