Course objectives
The goal of the course is to make students familiar with the evolution of the French foreign and security policy since World War II. Special attention will be paid to the evolution of Franco-American and Franco-German relations, to the decolonization of French empire and to the foreign and security policy of Charles de Gaulle and his successors.
Learning outcomes
After the completion of this course, students should be able to identify key themes of French foreign policy in the second half of the 20th century; to understand the evolution of the French foreign policy and the impact of various foreign-policy actors and to analyze French policy toward major world powers, regions and issues

Teaching methods
Lectures involve theoretical preparation. Readings serve to broaden and deepen the spectrum of knowledge students acquire during lectures. Seminar papers aim to improve the ability of students to analyze issues of French foreign and security policy as well as the ability to use historical documents and primary sources and to work with them properly. Regular attendance is expected.
Assessment methods
The course is completed with a written exam. The requirements for the completion of the course are: 1. Composition of one seminar paper on pre-agreed topic. 2. Successfully pass the written examination.
