Prerequisites

The learner is expected to have a substantive contribution to the research process itself: this must not only be, for example, organisational assistance with formal tasks (e.g. only sending out prepared questionnaires, mechanical checking of data files, administrative work), but a substantive involvement in which learners acquire the competences needed for the research process (e.g. preparing data collection or analysis, conducting interviews independently, coding, producing a research report, contributing to a research publication, etc.).

Course objectives

The course is a credit-bearing evaluation of the preparation of a research report from research delivered or facilitated by members of the Department of Sociology at FSS MU. Therefore, the course can only be enrolled by students who participate in such research under the guidance or supervision of a member of the Department of Sociology. The course is not intended for research assistants, but for informed researchers working consistently and independently on research.

Learning outcomes

After completing the course, the student will be able to independently process specific documentation and documents from social science research and prepare a research report. Thus, among other things, he/she will acquire the ability to understand various forms of application of sociological concepts and methods, and to interpret their concrete outputs in research practice.

Teaching methods

Research practice and consultation.

Assessment methods

Credit is awarded for the preparation of a final report on research in which the student participated under the supervision of a supervisor - a lecturer from the Department of Sociology. The course is based on the relationship between the individual student and the supervisor. The learner, in consultation with 'his/her' supervisor, asks for consent to enrol in the course, and the supervisor subsequently grants consent. At the end of the semester, the supervisor is then responsible for evaluating the research reports produced by him/her and awarding credit if necessary.
