Course objectives
The course offers students a comprehensive view of Czech-German relations. Through a historical excursion, it will introduce the key lines and milestones that have had a major impact on the formation of modern Czech-German relations and without an understanding of which it is impossible to understand contemporary Czech-German relations in all their depth. In this course, students will learn about the challenging process of "from conflict to cooperation" that has led Czechs and Germans to their best relationship to date in the history of their common encounters and encounters. A substantial part of the course is devoted to an analysis of contemporary Czech-German relations and their key themes, including a comparison of the Czech and German perspectives on mutual relations. A valuable bonus for students is the opportunity to establish cooperation with the non-profit organizations Post Bellum, Memory of the Nation and Meeting Brno, whose activities are closely related to the course topic.

- Understand the development of Czech-German relations from conflict to cooperation, including their historical burden
- Analyse the themes that drive contemporary Czech-German relations
- "Experience" Czech-German relations through their own projects
- Map out the possibilities of employment (study, internships, work) in institutions of Czech-German relations

Teaching methods
The course includes lectures, debates with external lecturers, a guided tour of Brno, readings, group projects and presentations at the end of the course.
Assessment methods
In the course, students work on their own semester-long project in which they creatively develop a selected topic of Czech-German relations based on thorough research and consultation with the teacher. The form of the work offers a wide range of possibilities: it can be a podcast, a video, an interview with a memoirist, a reportage, a photojournalism, a comic, a short story, a biography, a mapping of a place of historical memory, etc. The projects will then be presented and discussed at the end of the course.
