- Course objectives
- The goal of the course is to get the students acquainted with the most important political philosophers and their contributions to political thinking. The students will be introduced to key concepts of Western political philosophy. It is necessary that the students follow the program of readings specified in this syllabus.

Consultation 16:00, 28.9. 2002. 2. week (30.9. - 6.10. 2002) Study program: Political philosophy before Plato, Socrates, and Plato. Reading: see below. 3. week (7. - 13.10. 2002) Study program: Aristotle, political philosophy after Aristotle and Roman political thinking. Reading: see below. 4. week (14. - 20.10. 2002) Study program: Christian political thinking, the fathers of the church (Augustine) and scholastics (Thomas Aquinas). Reading: see below. 5. week (21. - 27.10. 2002) Study program: The dawn of the modern age: Machiavelli. Reading: see below. 6. week (28.10. - 3.11. 2002) Study program: Social contract theories (Hobbes and Locke). Reading: see below.
