- Course objectives
- The aim of this course is to introduce students to development and key issues of Polish foreign policy. Attention will be first given to ideological foundations of Polish foreign policy and brief summary of Poland´s foreign policies in the 20th century. Poland´s position in international relations in years 1989/1990, therefore in years when functioning of the independent polish foreign policy started, will then be explained. Following is outline of the legislative framework and introduction of main actors in Polish foreign policy. Main part of this course will focus on individual issues and areals, which play an important role in Polish foreign policy. The development of foreign policy since 1990 with emphasis on the major milestones will be introduced in each of the topics, as well as analysis of domestic Polish debate including causes, which shaped them. The current situation and issues in the given area will be outlined as well. One lecture with selected expert is also part of this course.

- Course structure and lectures overview 1) Introduction, introduction to structure of the course and passing requirements, development of Polish foreign policy thinking before the 2nd World war (Piłsudski x Dmowski). 2) Polish foreign policy thinking, both „at home“and in exile from the 2nd World war, the foreign policy position of Poland in 1989-1990 3) Legislative framework of Polish foreign policy and its main actors 4) Process of Poland´s entry to the EU and Poland as the EU member 5) Polish foreign policy towards Germany 6) Polish foreign policy towards the Czech Republic 7) Slovakia, Lithuania and Visegrad group in Polish foreign policy 8) Polish foreign policy towards Russia 9) Eastern Europe in Polish foreign policy 10) Polish foreign policy towards the U.S. 11) Security dimension of Polish foreign policy 12) Energy security dimension of Polish foreign policy 13) Expert´s lecture
