- Course objectives
- The course aims to provide students with a 1) survey of two basic concepts of international law - state and international treaty, 2) basic conceptual understanding of the methods, techniques and legal principles regarding European Union law and the European union itself. At the end of this course, students should be able to understand and be able to explain the development of the European union, to delineate the major differences among European Union and European Communities, to explain the institutional law, the relation of the EU law to national laws, the substantial law (internal market regulation, four freedoms) and the recent devepolemment (the Lisbon Treaty), especially with regard to the public administration.
- Learning outcomes
- Students will be provided with
- specialized knowledge of the substance and application of international treaties and of the functioning of the European integration and the European (EU) law system within the European context acquired by students in other courses;
- good understanding of matters concerning international treaties and EU law regulation in student-s professional activities;
- ability to understand EU aspects of the Czech legislation they deal in their professional activities. - Syllabus
- International law: Its specificities, state as its subject;
- international treaty;
- EU law: The history and the development of the European integration. Creation of the three Communities and European Union;
- Methods and forms of integration, principle of supranationality;
- Institutional law. Basic treaties as an EU constitution;
- Primary and secondary law. Sources, primacy and direct effect;
- Enforcement of EU law;
- Application of the EU law by the European Court of Justice;
- Basic principles of the Internal market. 4 basic freedoms;
- Selected branches of EU law.
