Course objectives
The attendees will obtain basic information about clinical immunology and allergology, diagnostic approach and treatment of immunopathological diseases. After finishing the course the students will understand the mechanisms of the immune response in physiology and the knowledge will enable them to understand the immune system disturbances leading to immunopathological diseases.
Learning outcomes
The student will become acquainted with basic mechanisms of functioning of the immune system, both in the component of innate and adaptive immunity. The student will be familiar with the most important mechanisms leading to immunopathological diseases. The student will understand the role of the immune system in defense against pathogens. The student will understand the basic classification of immunopathological diseases.
Syllabus
  • Immunology and medicine. History of immunology. Cells and organs of the immune system. Antigens. Immune reaction. Main histocompatibility complex. B-lymphocytes. Production of immunoglobulins. Immunoglobulins, function and structure. T-lymphocytes and cellular immunity. Cytotoxic lymphocytes. Cytokines. Immunity against infection. Non-specific immunity. Allergic diseases. Immunity and nutrition. Immunopathology. Immunodeficiency. Autoimmune diseases. Immunoprophylaxis and immunotherapy. Clinical immunology laboratory tests.

Teaching methods
Lecture and active presentations of students under supervision of lecturer.
Assessment methods
Colloquium presence in 90% with active participation in discussions is required. The knowledge is continuously checked by oral questions.
