- Course objectives
- This course covers the introductory principles and concepts of human physiology. Students will learn and understand the basic principles, concepts and facts of human physiology. The course will examine cellular, organ and whole body levels of organization with special focus on the relationships between structure and functions. As an elementary course, physiology not only provides the foundations for the subsequent clinical courses, but also integrates the knowledge acquired by students in the courses of anatomy and histology and uses the same methodology as clinical biochemistry and medical physics.
- Syllabus
- Introduce to Physiology, the cell (membranous structure of the cell, organelles, morphology and function), transport of substrates through the cell, membrane potentials, resting membrane potential, and action potential.
- Blood cells, immunity, blood clothing.
- The heart (anatomy, morphology, function, excitatory and conductive system of the heart).
- The cardiac cycle.
- Electrocardiography. Cardiology examination techniques.
- Myocardial infarction, heart failure, atherosclerosis.
- Physiology of circulation. Specialities of regional circulation, microcirculation.
- Respiration (mechanics of pulmonary ventilation, pulmonary volumes and capacities, transport of oxygen and carbon dioxide in the blood and body fluids).
- Regulation of respiration. Hypoxia.
- The kidneys (anatomy, morphology).
- Countercurrent multiplier system.
- The body fluids. Urine formation.
- Regulation of acid-base balance.
