- Course objectives
- The aim of the course is to provide students with a comprehensive, evidence-based understanding of obesity as a serious chronic and multifactorial disease. The course focuses on the biological mechanisms underlying the development and progression of obesity, as well as the nutritional, genetic, behavioral, and environmental factors that contribute to its onset. It also addresses effective strategies for prevention and treatment. Special emphasis is placed on the importance of a holistic, interdisciplinary approach and on the development of practical counseling and communication skills through long-term work with a client. Students will learn to apply up-to-date scientific knowledge in designing individualized nutritional recommendations and to critically reflect on their own professional practice.
- Learning outcomes

1.Describe and explain the historical development of the understanding of obesity and its classification as a chronic disease.
2. Characterize epidemiological trends and key factors contributing to the increasing prevalence of obesity in the population.
3. Explain the fundamental biological and pathophysiological mechanisms of obesity.
4. Characterize adipose tissue as a metabolically active organ and evaluate its role in metabolic and endocrine processes.
5. Analyze the psychological aspects of obesity, including behavioral determinants, the impact of stigma, and the importance of psychological support for patients.
6. Evaluate the effectiveness and potential risks of available therapeutic approaches to obesity management (dietary interventions, pharmacotherapy, bariatric surgery).
