Course objectives
By the end of the course students will be able to understand the social climate in the classroom; the knowledge acquired will improve their ability to communicate with individual pupils, their parents and the teacher. They will understand processes which take place in groups and classes. They will be able to recognise the specific needs of the pupils (SLD, hyperactivity disorders, symptoms of autism, etc.). They will understand the competences of teacher assistants in terms of prevention and intervention in the classroom. They will get acquainted with the principles of motivation in education.
Syllabus
  • Social climate at school, social climate in class.
  • Communication with the pupil, teacher, parent. Communication in difficult situations. Communication with difficult people.
  • Low school performance and its possible causes.
  • Behavioural disorders during childhood and adolescence.
  • Class as a social group and the relationships within.
  • Sociometry – techniques and data interpretation.
  • Specific learning disorders.
  • Hyperactivity and attention deficit disorder.
  • Motivation as a key element in the process of education.
