- This course introduces students to the theory of communication with regard to verbal communication. Theoretical questions are linked to the knowledge in the field of Czech in its communication theory and practice, esp. significant is connection to questions of style and stylistics.

- Course objectives
- The targets of the subject lie:
- in the acquirement of the knowledge on basic components of the communication situation contributing to being able to create a text (or speech) from the thematic, linguistic and text / composing aspect;
- in the establishment and development of the ability to create academic texts as preparation for the presentation of partial findings at the scientific forum. - Learning outcomes
- After completing this course, students will be able:
– to create scientific texts – basis for the presentation of the partial findings that are solved by writing doctoral thesis;
– to handle both theoretical and practical aspects of the presentation at the scientific forum (at the conference, the expert seminar s ~ scientific debate etc.);
– to write a scientific text on the theme related to the theme of the doctoral thesis that meets the requirement of publishing in the scientific journal. - Syllabus
- Language as an integral part of the communication of human society. Communication situation and its definition. The basic components of communication situations: sender, signal, communication code, coding, channel decoding, recipient, communication facilities, location, time and other factors communicative situation. Stylistic and communication factors, spoken and written communication, monologue and dialogue. Czech in the communication process; language, style and communication standards. Respecting Grice´s maxim - the level of shared information, truth being communicated, concreteness, clarity, language correctness and stylistic refinement. Communication manipulation and reasoning in process of communication. Text and speeches production - academic writting. Communication processes: formulation of hypotheses, selection of topics and means of expression, confirming or rejecting of the hypothesis. Topic suitability and structure of the text - its cohesion and coherence. Text or speech reception, its sense. Trends in the field of communication (information) technology and development of human - human and human - computer interaction.
