Course objectives
The seminar is a discussion of texts that develop the knowledge gained in lectures of the introduction to visual culture and teach students to actively use the concepts and concepts of the field. It moves thematically from visuality itself to the issue of new, digital media and the globalized world of media (including social). The seminar deepens the knowledge and disposition to teach media literacy.
Learning outcomes
1) The student understands the texts of visual studies, he can apply concepts and concepts to the topics he is dealing with. 2) The student can describe and analyze the phenomena of visual culture from a number of points of view and from several branch perspectives. 3) The student is able to pass on the acquired knowledge clearly, can explain the "media sneakiness" and the structural background of work with media and visuality (creation, presentation or other publication of media messages, organization of activities)
Syllabus
  • 1) Image and representation of reality; reducibility versus "opacity" (economics of perception); 2) facts versus values, interpretation and identification, the influence of pre-understanding, expectations (attitudes and dispositions); 3) Image potential: mobilizing emotions and acting. Influence conditions (taste and ideological culture, belief, habitus); 4) explanation of the image (forms) versus "empathy" to its influence (hermeneutics, semiotics, iconology and iconography); 5) information society, needs vs. defense against flooding of information, anesthesia; 6) advertising as manipulation of desire (Baudrillard), focus on dream and utopian (instinctive).

Assessment methods
An essay in the range of 5000 characters per chosen subject (one of three entered), leaning texts / literature to the seminar. Score of 0 - 30 points (at least 10 points must be awarded for the credit). Criteria for assessment: a) Proven knowledge of lecturing and reading (0 - 8 points); 2) originality and language level (0-15 points); c) work with resources and formal level of text (0 - 7 points).
