Cíle předmětu
This course will focus on specific alternative methods of teaching English to pupils with specific learning difficulties in regular elementary school classes. Except of the theoretical basis concerning the individual methods, students will be shown and given a lot practical activities that can be directly used in their English classes.Students will be given an opprotunity to discuss and share ideas as well as their own activities that work with SLD pupils.
Osnova
  • Specific learning difficulties - terminology, definitions, classification, etiology, what can and cannot be classified as SLD, facts & myths, common problems of pupils with SLD in a foreign language lesson.
  • Total Physical Response - introduction of the basic pillars of TPR, particular sequence and mode to make language learning more effective, brain lateralization - learning on the right side of the brain,imperative and physical action, the impact of an "affective filter" on language learning, a range of various TPR activities that can be used in English classes.
  • Multisensory structured language approach - introduction, different learning styles, Howard Gardner’s Theory of Multiple Intelligences, MSLA as a natural and beneficial way of teaching and learning languages, a range of different practical multisensory activities that can be used in English classes.

Metody hodnocení
Credit requirements:
This class meets only twice a term at the faculty and therefore attendance is required at both of these sessions.
Students are supposed to write an essay on a topic connected to the main field of interest of this course and present 3 activities that are appropriate for mixed-ability classes with SLD pupils.
