Course objectives
At the end of this course the students will fully understand the sound part of human communication that is created according to the speech organs. Student will be also able to get in sound structure of the speech, on the comparison of the spoken and the written texts.Students will show the ability to deal with the orthographic problems, the phonetic transcription, with the principles of the orthography and with the orthoepie, with classification of the vowels and consonants. The students recognise the structure of the syllable, segmentation of the continuous speech and pronunciation of home and loan words. The variants of the phonemes in the continuous speech, sound structure of the Czech, its graphical registration.

  • 1. Phonetics and phonology. 2. Relation between phonetics and phonology. 3. Phonetic and phonologic transcription. 4. Classification of the phones and phonemes in Czech. 5. Sound means in of continuous speech. 6. Literary pronunciation of home and loan words. 7. Sound structure of the Czech and its graphical registration. 8. Spelling czech rules.

Teaching methods
Seminars combined with discussion about home preparation aimed to fulfill the requirements of the course. Textual analysis: identification of the morphological phenomena in the text.
Assessment methods
Written test in the end of the term. The exam consists of two parts: written one and oral one. During the semester the students will write four written tests: orthography (dictation - consisting of 80 orthographical phenomena), knowledge of the system of Czech vowel sounds and consonant sounds, phonetic transcription and classification of the sounds.The students must earn 70%. The part of the final test will be the tests written during the semester. For succesful conclusion the students must earn 70%.
