Course objectives
The aim of the course is to acquaint students with a practical usage of alternative teaching methods, especially critical thinking methods that facilitate a process of developing an active and effective learning of pupils of 2nd stage of basic schools. Gained educational methods correspond to the Framework Education Programme for Elementary Education requirements.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course the student will be able:
1. to understand of the alternative methods and the methods of the critical thinking;
2. to use the alternative methods;
3. to use the methods of the critical thinking in teaching Czech, especially in grammar and stylistic lessons at the primary school.
4. to design a project of the Czech language lesson for the 2nd stage of basic school with the usage of model E-R-R (evocation, realization of meaning, reflection);
5. to evaluate the student’s own didactic outputs and colleagues’ outputs during a presentation of the lesson.

  • 1. Characteristic features of the selected alternative teaching programmes, e.g. project teaching RWCT Reading, Writing Critical thinking. • 2. Theoretical resources of the RWCT project. • 3. Critical thinking and the structure of teaching Czech. • 4. Creation of the environment for critical thinking. • 5 Asking questions. • 6. Methods and strategies of the teaching leading to effective learning in the Czech language lessons. • 7. Methods developing critical thinking in grammar and stylistic lessons at the second stage of basic schools.

Teaching methods
A seminar, active class discussions among students about topics being talked over, class presentation - application of discussed methods and teaching strategies, homeworks
Assessment methods
The subject is ended by a credit. Compulsory attendance. Homework is required in the course of the term. They submit a portfolio that includes the application of methods based on chosen topics of Czech language grammatical or stylistic subject matter to get a credit. Detailed requirements are available in each term in Study Materials of the course in the Information System MU, the folder Learning Materials.
