Course objectives
The aim of the course is to acquire knowledge of the problems of Russian spelling and the problems associated with the use of hard and soft characters (ъ, ь), the letters ж, ш, щ, ц, as well as vowels in the roots of Russian words.
Learning outcomes
At the end of this course the student will be able to:
- explain the Russian spelling rules covered
- apply the acquired knowledge of the rules of Russian spelling in practice,
- work with spelling dictionaries of the Russian language and Russian spelling manuals.
Syllabus
  • 1.-2. Usage i/y, a/ya, u/yu after sykavkách g, sh, щ, ц.
  • 3.-5. Writing o/ё after sykavkách ж, ш, щ, ц.
  • 6. Using a soft character to indicate softness.
  • 7. Using a soft character to distinguish grammatical forms of words.
  • 8. Using a hard character.
  • 9. Writing and/or following prefixes.
  • 10-11. Vowel alternation in word roots.
  • 12. Repetition, summary exercises.

Teaching methods
- independent work in an interactive curriculum with answer sheets - after studying the theoretical basis and terminology, students work independently (translation and spelling exercises - make-up exercises, correcting texts with mistakes, writing their own texts, etc.);
- consultation with the teacher in MS Teams.
Assessment methods
Regular preparation and submission of assignments based on work with the interactive syllabus and work with answer sheets (it is necessary to prepare all answer sheets in accordance with the detailed instructions received at the beginning of the semester). Language accuracy is assessed.
