- Course objectives
- The course introduces students to the basic socio-pedagogical concepts and contexts of education in the context of family, school and society. Emphasis is placed on understanding the social role of the school, the functions of the family and the influence of the environment on the formation of values. The course also includes critical reflection on educational phenomena of everyday reality and work with current issues in the helping professions.
- Learning outcomes
- Upon successful completion of the course, the student will be able to:
- define the social aspects of education and support their claims with professional sources
- understand the transdisciplinarity of education and place it in context with other social science disciplines
- navigate the literature and work with specialist sources
- characterise the importance of the environment for oneself and reflect on one's own value orientation
- respond in basic socio-pedagogical situations in which education takes place. critically evaluate objective reality and argue adequately, avoiding “argumentative fouls” - Syllabus
- 1. Understanding the basic socio-pedagogical concepts and paradigms that influence the educational work of the educator.
- 2. Understanding the specifics of education as a helping profession, understanding one's own motives for studying. Reflection on these two aspects (connections, overlaps).
- 3. Types of environments and their influence on education.
- 4. Working with values, value vision of the world, confrontation with the values of others.
- 5. Self versus science - awareness of how my beliefs are formed, on what basis I formulate my beliefs.

We try to take into account the different learning styles of learners and create different learning formats and assignments so that everyone can learn and express themselves in their preferred way. - Assessment methods
- The course is completed by an examination for 5 credits. For successful completion, we require:
Active attendance (regulated by the study and examination regulations)
Completion of 3 written portfolio assignments
Final multiple choice test
