Course objectives
The aim of the course is to introduce students to natural cosmetics, basic legislation in this area, sources of natural cosmetic raw materials and representatives of active substances and excipients.
Learning outcomes
Upon completion of the course, the student will be able to:
- orient themselves in the field of natural cosmetics, describe methodologies for determining the proportion of naturalness;
- describe the sources of natural cosmetic raw materials;
- describe the different groups of natural excipients and basic examples.
Syllabus
  • - The issue of natural cosmetics. Legislation in the field of natural cosmetics, normative documents.
  • - Certification organisations for natural cosmetics in the EU and worldwide, characteristics.
  • - Certification of natural cosmetics in the Czech Republic.
  • - Methods and methodologies for determining the proportion of naturalness in cosmetic raw materials and products.
  • - Technological procedures and chemical methods approved for natural cosmetics.
  • - Sources of natural cosmetic raw materials, characteristics of the basic groups.
  • - Natural excipients: preservatives.
  • - Natural excipients: antioxidants and colouring agents.
  • - Natural excipients: tensides.
  • - Natural excipients: gel-forming and viscosity-enhancing.
  • - Natural oils and waxes as active and auxiliary substances.
  • - Formulations of natural cosmetics and examples of commercial preparations.
